Garfield County montana

IT’S TIME TO VISIT

A PLACE TO SEE

If you want to experience wide open spaces, there is no better place than Jordan, Montana. Garfield County has a population of only 1,173 people within 4847 square miles. But we are not alone! Garfield County is the home to 74,262 cattle and 12,587 sheep. It should be no surprise that our community is made up of cowboys and farmers. Cattle brandings and long nights in the tractor are our way of life, along with dockings and sheep shearing's. Almost everyone can ride a horse and rope a calf. Which gives us ties to the old wild-west that everyone loves to think about.

Why To Stop and Stay?

Garfield County is a great place to stay. Hunting and fishing is plentiful in this amazing county and we have the guides to show you the way and get you the trophy you have been after. From whitetail, mule deer, elk, antelope to walleye or northern, we are the place to come. There are also other fun hunting opportunities such as predator and prairie dog hunts. We also have fantastic ice fishing during the winter months, with accommodations right on the lakeshore to make for easy access.

Dinosaurs are also our thing! We have college groups that come out all summer long to work on searches and excavations. We have businesses who find and clean fossils for education and resale. We also have the Dinosaur Cowboy, who has been featured on the Discovery series, Dino Hunters. He has been an instrumental part of many of the main fossils that have come out of Garfield County, including the "Dueling Dinosaurs".

If you enjoy hiking or wildlife photography, Jordan Montana is the #1 basecamp for these activities. With thousands of acres of federal and state lands to explore, the vast expanse of openness is a dream come true for hikers and photographers.

The Hell Creek Finger of Fort Peck Lake is an excellent place to access the lake and go paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, boating, water skiing, tubing and of course fishing. With camp grounds and cabins there are plenty of accommodations for tenting, campers, RV's and room rentals.

Claim to Fame?

Besides having the Dinosaur Cowboy living within our county limits, we have a few other claims to fame.

The "Nations T-Rex" also known as the Wankel T-Rex was found on a ranch in Garfield County. It is the most complete T-Rex discovered to date! It was on display for many years at the Museum of the Rockies, and has since moved to the Smithsonian on lease for 50 years!

Are you a football fanatic? Most Garfield County residents are die-hard Packers fans and the reasoning is Jerry Kramer! He was an all-star player, voted to 3 pro bowls and played 11 seasons! He was born and raised right here in Garfield County.

Small town community with a true sense of rural living that is not seen many other places in this day in age. Garfield County is the true place to see what Big Sky really means. Amazing hunting and fishing opportunities with experienced guides to show you the way and get you the trophy you are looking for.
